Pudsey Cruise Into Next Round
Pudsey’s senior team started their challenge for the Yorkshire club trophy with an away match at Doncaster St Mary’s on Sunday. Pudsey’s team consisted of Yorkshire Players Simon Pugh, Richard Smith and Chris Parker and were strong favourites to win. The match went to form with Pudsey quickly leading 4-0 and with Richard and Simon in scintillating form taking the doubles in three straight. Pudsey continued to cruise to a 9-1 victory.
Ellen Auty continued her fine run of form when she made the short trip over the Pennines to compete in the Stiga Junior Grand Prix in Hyndburn. In the junior girls round robin event Ellen was undefeated and included a three sets to one win over Yorkshire first team junior Jenny Wood.
Division four saw Pudsey H grabbing a draw in a thriller against Leeds Judean. Pudsey were 4-2 but the evergreen Granville Thornton pulled two games back as Pudsey went into the last match 5-4 down. 15 year old Reuben Hainsworth then took the two opening legs 11-9 as a draw looked a formality. Eamon O’Brien fought back to take the next leg and then the fourth leg 14-12. The fifth seem to be in Eamon’s control leading 10-6 but Reuben showed great battling qualities to snatch the game 12-10.
Division six in the Leeds league this week saw an excellent win for the Pudsey I team over Leeds YMCA 6-4. Star of the show was newcomer to the Pudsey club this year Mike Noble winning all his three matches. Mike also combined with cadet boy Tim Mcdonald to win the doubles with Pudseys other victories from Tim and Elana McClements.
