Three Wins at British League for Pudsey First Team
Senior British league matches took centre stage in Draycott for Pudsey players this weekend. The first team had a good opening win against Bonsall Barbarians 7-1 thanks to two wins each for Chris Parker, Phil Lowe, Phil Cawser and one from James Atkins. In their second match Pudsey lost to a strong Hartlepool side 5-3 with wins each for Parker, Cawser and Atkins.
Sunday morning saw Pudsey on the right side of a 5-3 score line as a man of the match performance from Phil Cawser gave Pudsey the edge over Matlock. One win each also here for Parker, Atkins and Bryan Birkbeck. Pudsey finished by winning their third match of the weekend again 5-3 over Cliffedale Chandlers. Phil Cawser continuing his impressive performance winning both his matches and was backed up by two wins from Parker and one from Atkins. This leaves Pudsey in equal second place in division four north.
Pudsey’s second team competing in Division five north had a role reversal of the first team results losing three and winning one. In their opening match a 6-2 loss to Sycamore, Pudsey lady player Nicola Smith and junior girl Nicole Finn had a good win apiece. Nicola showed great battling qualities coming from 2-0 nil down in her match to win 11-6 in fifth over Joseph Bell.
Their second match against Arbory created special interest with the appearance of former European champion John Hilton. No surprises here as he took his side to a 6-2 victory over Pudsey. Thou Chris Newsome victory over the veteran defender from the Isle of Mann defender John Magnall in 11-7 in the fifth was an entertaining match of attack against defence. Bryan Birkbeck also enjoyed success over Lincolnshire defender Bryan Allison in the fifth.
Sunday morning brought no joy as Pudsey crashed 8-0 to Ormesby. The afternoon finally brought a victory and in some style with a 7-1 victory over team Tameside. Here two wins each for club chairman Paul Dykes, Rudi Itoe, Bryan Birkbeck and one for Chris Newsome.
