Star of the Future

Pudsey cadets were in action at the National Cadet league on Sunday at Bradford Girls Grammar School. The B team were playing in division three and opened the first match a player short against Rotherham. Though they battled hard Sam Parker and Ben Roberts could not stop a 7-2 defeat to Rotherham. Ben gained both Pudsey wins though Sam could feel a bit unlucky losing both her games 9 in the fifth end. Next match saw 9 year-old Joe Moss coming into the team and facing Bradford Fast Bats players up to five years older than him. The team made a good start establishing a 3-0 lead before Joe faced Ellen Adams and in an entertaining game Joe won his first ever cadet match 11-8 in the fifth end. Joe, a definite star of the future then won his second game 3-0 over Abass Ahmed. This enabled Pudsey to a 7-2 over Bradford with Sam winning all three of her games and Ben two. Pudsey B lost their last match 7-2 with both wins coming from Ben Roberts but Joe only just failed in the fifth end to beat Sheffield Wisewood’s Charlie Crown.

The A team of Ellen Auty, Edward Hollingsworth and Tim McDonald were also in action. In their opening match they gained a 7-2 victory over Rotherham with Ellen and Edward winning all three. In the second match they lost a thriller 5-4 to Keighley Okabank before finding Halifax too strong in their last match going down 9-0.

No joy for Pudsey F in the third round of the FM Carr as they lost 5-2 to Lawnswood YMCA with a win each for Richard Laws and Peter Greasley. No problems for Pudsey A the defending champions of the Jaques Shield as they cruised to a 6-0 win over Leeds Judean.
