Girls Reach National Championships
It was the Yorkshire regional qualifications for under-11 to 14s this weekend in Halifax. The Leeds and Pudsey coaching system has a strong tradition of producing quality girl players and this was again in evidence at this event. Samantha Parker won the under-14 event and also qualified to go to the nationals in the under-13s. Shristi Ghosh went through also at two age groups, under-11 and under-12. In the under-11 boys, nine year old Joe Moss won seven matches on the day to finish a creditable fifth and take up a reserve qualifying place. Both of the girls will now go to the National Championship finals held in Doncaster in April.
In the Leeds League this week the title race for the first division looks a formality now for Pudsey A as they won 9-1 against a weakened B team. The E team in division two took revenge on the D team winning 6-4 who had won by the same score line early in the season.
The best match of the week in the Leeds League was in Division three where Pudsey G got a draw with Acre Farm Rovers. Pudsey found themselves 4-0 down but won the doubles and the next singles to reduce the deficit to 4-2. Acre Farm took the next leg to lead 5-2 before Tom Sampson gained an 11-8 win in the fifth over Bob Ryan to make it 5-3. It soon became 5-4 as Carol Judson got the better of Dave Williamson in four ends. This left Lukasz Karasinski having the task of getting the draw and he made no mistake in winning in three straight games over Chris Haw. Also in Division 3 there was a good win for the F team 7-3 over Leeds Judean with John Dasoalo winning all three of his individual matches.
