Senior British League Results
It was the final weekend of the British league this weekend with Pudsey’s first team competing in Hartlepool and the second team in Accrington.
The first team have had a good season and continued in similar vein on Saturday with two excellent 6-2 wins over Isle of Man and Bonsall Barbarians. Against Isle of Man junior James Atkins picked up the player of the match winning two alongside number one Chris Parker. Here also good wins each for Dave Noutch and Nicole Finn. Junior girl Nicole getting the player of the match against Bonsall Barbarians with the umpires comments “awesome forehand power” as she blew away her senior men opponents. Sunday saw Pudsey were on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line with a win each for Dave, Bryan Birkbeck and James before winning 8-0 over two player team Matlock. This leaves Pudsey finishing in a very creditable third position.
With the strength of Division five north it’s been a struggle for the second team but the players have gained valuable experience competing at this level. This weekend saw a good draw against Sycamore with good individual wins for Nicola Smith and Chris Newsome. Top of the table Wigan were too strong as Pudsey lost 7-1 with Nicola again playing well to beat the Wigan number one James Bartolo. Sunday saw Pudsey well beaten in both matches and this left them finishing third from bottom.
In the Leeds League the A team recorded a 10- 0 win over MPMG. Division three saw a good 6-4 win for Pudsey G over Judean with a fine individual performance from Lukasz winning all three. In Division 4 the local derby match saw the H team beat the I team 8-2. Of note here was Junior Ellen Auty’s performance playing up from division five winning two with cadet boy Edward Hollingsworth also taking three individual wins. Pudsey K also recorded a comprehensive 9-1 win over Lawnswood YMCA with three wins each for Mike Noble and junior Jack Taylor.
