Three Titles for Linda
Pudsey players were in the forefront of the action at the Bradford League Closed Championships event held at the Keighley Table Tennis centre on Sunday 20th March. Pudsey’s Linda Sanderson was the star of the show taking three titles. Linda lifted the Ladies singles, and in combination with Lynne Thompson from Pudsey the ladies doubles. Playing with her regular mixed doubles partner Mark Land, Linda won her third trophy in the Handicap doubles event. Doug Bartle picked up two titles winning the veterans over 55 and also the consolation singles. In the handicap singles John Ainley finished runner up. Pudsey’s Ellen Auty was the winner in a mixed junior event.
In the Leeds League this week Pudsey B had a crushing win over the C team 9-1 with Chris Parker and Phil Cawser taking all three sets and two for Junior James Atkins. Lee Orange taking the solitary set for the C team. In division two a shock 8-2 win for the D team in their relegation fight over second placed Leeds YMCA. Here John Thaxter taking three and two each for Nicole Finn and Rudi Itoe. Rudi and John combining for the doubles. In division four Pudsey H consisting of three junior boys, Reuben Hainsworth, Reece Bell and Edward Hollingsworth had a hard-fought victory against a very experienced WHRA side. After six matches Pudsey found themselves 4-2 down but Reuben then got the better of Keith Pickersgill in three sets to lead the fight back and Pudsey won the next three to finish with a 6-4 victory. The boys finished with three wins for Reuben, two for Edward and one for Reece. Also in division four, Pudsey I team lost 8-2 to Leeds Judean with David Wood winning the only individual single.
In division 6 the K team’s good season continues with a fine win 8-2 over Yorkshire Bank with Cadet Boy Tim Mcdonald leading the way with three wins and two for Mike Noble and two for Elana McClements.
