Ellen Banks the Money
Pudsey Table Tennis Club’s Ellen Auty was in action last weekend in the final event of the seven-round Stiga 2 Star Grand Prix, in Blackley, Manchester.
Having competed in the six previous rounds, 14-year old Ellen was in a commanding points lead on the final day. Ellen was hoping for a win to add to the trophy haul she’d already gained, with one win and four runner-up places, having only missed out in one round when she came third after a set of tough matches.
Having beaten off the other entrants, Ellen’s main rival in the competition was Garstang’s Rebecca Hodsgon, who had also won some of the earlier rounds. Expectations were high given that Ellen had beaten Rebecca in the previous round, in a 3-0 victory. It wasn’t quite so easy this time though, but Ellen came out on top in the fifth end with an 11-9 win, to secure the winner’s trophy and a cheque for £125.
