Unbeaten Start Comes To An End
Pudsey C team's fine start to division two with five wins and a draw came to an end this week facing New Farnley. Pudsey got off to a poor start as Richard Ball was blown away in three straight games by Stan Eaton. Chris Newsome brought parity with a fifth end win 18-16 after three other deuce score lines. Nicole Finn put Pudsey in front with another fifth end win over Zoe Cheeseman and when Chris increased the score to 3-1 with a win over Stan it looked plain sailing.
The doubles however proved the turning point of the match with Pudsey failing to capitalise on a couple of match points before losing the doubles 18-16 in the fifth end. New Farnley then took the next three singles to establish a 5-3 lead. Nicole gave Pudsey hope as another game went all the way to the fifth end winning 11-9 over Stan. Richard Ball lost the opening leg of the final match against Graham Wylie but battled back to establish a 2-1 lead but in a night of fifth ender’s Graham came thru to give Farnley Victory.
Pudsey F team also in Division two had a fine win 8-2 as they got the better of early leaders WHRA, Steve Winnard being the player of the match with three individual wins and combining with Cadet Jake McCarthy to take the doubles. His wins including a four set win over top of the individual averages Craig Render.
Pudsey J team in division six had a hard fought victory over Armley 6-4 in a match that see-sawed but saw Darren Hirsh get the better of Lynda Dawson in three sets in the last game to give Pudsey victory. The decisive factor here was John Grieves winning three and combining with Darren to win the doubles.
