Pudsey Progress 5-1 in all Cup Matches
It was cup week in Leeds and Teams representing Pudsey Table Tennis club were in action in all three cups. In the Norman Smith cup for Division five this brought an interesting Derby between the Pudsey J and K team. The match saw father Steve Parker up against his 13 year old son and daughter. The J team soon established a 2-0 lead before Steve faced Samantha who quickly raced into a two set lead but dad gradually got back into the game and using all his experience won 11-6 in the fifth. Michael Parker was on top form as he cruised to a three sets victory over Darren Hirsh. This was as good as it got for the K team as the match went to ranking with the J team winning 5-1.
Also in the Norman Smith Cup Pudsey I from division five had a 5-1 victory over Yorkshire Bank. Junior girl Ellen Auty continued her recent impressive run of form winning two matches, with Kingsley Smith also taking two and one for Veteran Paul Scurrah.
The F.M.Carr trophy also saw another 5-1 victory Pudsey H over Leeds YMCA. Here two wins each for Tom Sampson and Granville Thornton and one win for Maurice Wrigley.
The Jaques Shield also threw up another Pudsey derby as the F and C teams clashed. Chris Newsome gave Pudsey C the lead with a straight set victory over Richard McCarthy. Junior Jake McCarthy levelled the scores with a fifth end win over Richard Ball. Junior girl Nicole Finn put Pudsey C back in front and though a couple of matches went to the fifth end, it was the C team who progressed. Final score 5-1 with two wins each for Chris and Nicole and a win for Ball.
