Sunday Best

This weekend saw Pudsey Senior National League teams in action, the first team at Draycott and the seconds in Middlesbrough. Saturday brought little joy for either team with only the first team able to muster a 4-4 draw with Halton, with one win each for Chris Parker, Phil Cawser, Bryan Birkbeck and James Atkins.

Sunday saw better performances from both teams, the first team winning one match 5-3 against Smiths Wood Bribar. Pudsey went into a quick 2-0 lead but were soon trailing 3-2 but responded by winning the last three games. Veteran Phil Cawser with a player of the match award with two wins and one each for Chris, James and Bryan. The second team showed good mental strength after losing both games Saturday they recorded a draw and a comprehensive win. In the drawn game against Cliffedale Chandlers, Mark Heptonstall won both his games with his mix of good serves and power hitting. Nicole Finn and Chris Newsome also recorded a win each. Against Wigan, Pudsey dominated the match recording an emphatic 8-0 win. Fifteen year old cadet boy Jake McCarthy on debut showed great potential in his fifth end victory over Craig Scarisbrick.

In the Leeds League this week Pudsey C are fighting hard to stay at the top of division two as they were taken all the way by the D team. Lee Orange winning three but it went down to the wire as Nicole beat Rudi Itoe 11-6 in the fifth to win 6-4.

Pudsey Junior Ellen Auty took three for Pudsey I team but it was not enough to give her side victory as they drew with Judean with a win apiece for Kingsley Smith and Lynne Thompson.
