Leaders Halted

Match of the week in the Leeds League involving Pudsey teams was the division six match between Pudsey I and leaders Lower Wortley who had won their seven opening matches. Wortley took the first game as Dave Suddick got the better of Paul Scurrah. Ellen Auty levelled and this set the pattern of the match. With Lower Wortley leading 2-1, Ellen who is currently top of the individual averages faced Steve Riddick who was second in the individual averages. When Steve took the third end 11-3 to take a two sets to one lead it looked that experience would get the better of youth. However junior Ellen, using her own economical style responded to win 11-9 in the fifth. It was to be Ellen’s night winning all three as she also beat Suddick 11-6 in the fifth to level the match score at 4-4. Scurrah’s topspin loops were too hot to handle for Riddick as he surprisingly dominated the game to put Pudsey 5-4 ahead. Wily campaigner Geoff Benn with his consistent rolling topspin style had the right style to see off the long-pimpled player Kingsley Smith to give the leaders a draw in this classic end to end match.

Division one saw Pudsey A have a fine victory over Leaders Leeds Judean 6-4. Richard Smith taking three backed up with Mark Heptonstall and one for Shah Masoudi. The same score line saw Pudsey B beat MPMG with three Chris Parker and two for Phil Cawser and these two combining to take the all important doubles.

Division two saw another tight match as the F team drew with Dewsbury C the doubles being all important with two wins for Lukasz and one each for Mick Lowe and Rudi Itoe. In division 3 Pudsey G continue to struggle losing 6-4 Lawnswood with two wins for Carol Judson and one each for Steve Smith and Paul Dykes.
