Mixed Cup Results for Pudsey

In the Jaques Shield for the top two division in Leeds both Pudsey B and C teams failed to progress. The A team found Dewsbury A too strong losing 5-1 but this failed to tell the whole story. Pudsey A took the lead with a fine victory for Bryan Birkbeck over Darren Page. Chris Parker then led Dewsbury’s Richard Lightowler 5-2 in the fifth and failed to capitalise on a match point.

The C team also suffered at the hands of a Dewsbury team but in a thrilling match. With the score 3-2 to Dewsbury Lee Orange levelled the match with a 3 set straight win over Adrian Worth. With passions running high the ebullient “good boy” Chris Newsome over came Dave Mitton 15-13 in a tense fourth end. Pudsey took the first end in the next two games but could not get the win as they finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 score line.

Success came here for Pudsey H as they saw off Croma 5-3. Pudsey made a poor start going 2-0 down but the settling influence of Granville Thornton helped to see Pudsey 4-2 up. Croma pulled a set back before Tom Sampson’s three set win over Stephen Gilpin gave Pudsey the victory.

In the Norman Smith Cup Pudsey I progressed here 5-1 over Leeds YMCA. Here a good all round team performance with two wins each for Ellen Auty and Kingsley Smith and one for Lynne Thompson. Also in this cup Pudsey J lost 5-1 to Leeds Judean with John Grieves picking up the single win.
