Cadets Unbeaten

It was the Second weekend of the National cadet League on Sunday in Wath-on Dearne.  The team consisted of Edward Hollingsworth, Reece Bell, Ellen Auty and Jordan Gornall .Pudsey operating a rotating selection policy continued their excellent series of results. In the opening match they saw off Rotherham 6-0. A hard fought match against Bradford Fast Bats saw Pudsey win 4-2 with a brace for Edward and one each for Bell and Gornall. Two comfortable victories followed 5-1 and 6-0 over Rotherham Scorpions and Howarth Hawks respectively. In the opening weekend Only Keighley Oakbank had beaten Pudsey and with Pudsey 3-1 down it looked as history was about to be repeated. Edward in determined form using good topspins and punchy backhands came thru to beat Keighley’s number two, three games to one. Ellen Auty soon established a 2-0 lead and the draw looked in the bag but a missed smash saw the third end disappear 12-10. The next end also went the Keighley player. In a nervous fifth end with Ellen playing some strong drives and switching her opponent she was always just ahead. With the scores at 10-10 in the fifth Ellen produced two forehand winners to give Pudsey the draw.

In the Leeds League this week the A team won 10-0 to keep up their position at the top of the league. After eight matches division two is starting to take shape and Pudsey C won 10-0 to stay second. Their position enhanced by a good win for the E team over third placed Dewsbury with juniors Atkins and Adams leading the way.

In division six their was a bit of history as Elana Mc Clements won her first ever match in the Leeds League and this helped her team to a 6-4 victory. Pudsey J also secured victory by the same score thanks to good wins by 13 year old Jack Taylor and Nicole Finn.
