Press Correspondent: Peter Thompson Cadets Bag a Brace of Wins Pudsey’s cadets were in action at Bradford on Sunday in the first round of the Cadet League. In division one the A Team of Ellen Auty, Edward Hollingsworth and Tim McDonald made an excellent start with a 6-3 victory over Oakbank A. Ellen dominated the match, beating her three opponents, backed up with two from Edward and one for Tim. A second hard fought victory by the narrowest of margins, 5-4, over Scorpions A followed, with two wins each for Ellen and Edward and one for Tim. The cadets were then over-powered 9-0 by a strong Halifax team. Division three of the cadet league saw some of Pudsey’s stars of the future making their debut in the cadet league. Twins Michael and Samantha Parker both won their debut games and combined with Ben Roberts to win their opening match 5-4 - two wins each for Michael and Ben and one for Sam. Eleven year old Ben remained calm playing controlled topspins to give Pudsey victory in the last match. In the second match Pudsey found themselves 4-1 down to Wisewood B from Sheffield but fought back to level the match thanks to an inspired comeback from Samantha. 10-6 down and 2-1 down in matches she managed to win 16-14 and then take the fifth 11-5. Brother Michael could not quite bring the win home losing in four in the last match. The team, far from being despondent, came out playing attacking table tennis and despatched Bradford Fastbat’s B 9-0.Posted 11 October 2010 08:43 BST
