Divisional Title In The Bag

Pudsey J in division six went into this weeks match knowing a draw was good enough to take the title. Leeds Judean I lying in second place new they had to win the match to give them chance of the title. They quickly established a 3-1 lead but Pudsey took the doubles thru Paul Scurrah and Kingsley Smith and then levelled the match at 3-3. Judean responded to go 4-3 but Pudsey again made it 4-4. In a dramatic ninth leg Dave woods secured the draw with a 12-10 victory in the fifth. The last game epitomised this hard fought match with Scurrah winning the match for Pudsey with another 12-10 victory in the fifth. With one week to go in the Leeds league three further divisional titles are still up for grabs by Pudsey teams.

Pudsey players had some great results at the Bradford closed on Sunday. Pride of place went to Linda Sanderson who lifted the Women’s Singles from Pudsey’s Lynne Thompson. This gave Linda the distinction of being both Leeds and Bradford Closed ladies champion in the same season. Veteran campaigner and club coach Granville Thornton was in the thick of the action winning various men’s banded events.
