Edward's Perfect Ten

It was the first weekend of the National cadet League on Sunday in Wath-on Dearne. Eleven year old Edward Hollingsworth made a dream debut for the Pudsey B team in division two. The team consisted of Edward, Reece Bell and Ellen Auty made an impressive start to the series of cadet matches. They rattled of three straight 6-0 wins over Haworth Hawks, Bradford Fast Bats and Rotherham Scorpions B.  A tough match against Scorpions B saw Pudsey win with Edward winning two, Reece one and Ellen holding her nerves in a tense last match to get a 4-2 victory. Pudsey failed to make it five wins on the trot when losing to Keighley Oakbank in a tight match 4-2. Edward finishing the day with ten wins from ten played.

Pudsey’s B team consisted of Neil Dattani, Nicole Finn and Jack Taylor playing in Division one found the going tough. In their opening match they faced a strong Halifax side losing 6-3 with two wins for Nicole and one for Jack. Pudsey also lost the next match 7-2 with a win for Nicole and Neil. In their last match Pudsey gained a tight win over Bradford Fast bats B team with a thrilling 5-4 victory. Nicole showing the boys from Bradford that girl’s can compete in this mainly boys dominated league with an impressive three wins. Jack playing his best table tennis of the day grabbed a win and Neil ensured the victory with a fifth end game win.
