Finn Shines in Scarborough
It was the first of the new Yorkshire Junior Grand Prix one star junior tournament at Scarborough on Saturday. Pudsey twelve year old Nicole Finn continued to show her rising status reaching the final of the under 15 girl’s cadet singles. Having beaten the top seed in her group and coming through her group undefeated she played her Pudsey team mate Ellen Auty. Ellen had come through her tough group in a runner up spot. Nicole took the honours three nil but it was the tight second end 12-10 which was the turning point of the game. In the final Nicole lost 3-0 to Emily Roys from Lincolnshire but she can be well pleased with her first medal at an open tournament.
In the Leeds league this week it was the A team on the charge with two wins 8-2 and 9-1 respectively over Leeds Judean and Victoria. The F team staged a magnificent fight back over the E team trailing 4-1 at the halfway stage. They won five games on the bounce thanks to an impressive performance by John Thaxter in winning all three. The other Pudsey derby in Division Six between the J and k ended all square. Dan Jeavons winning all three for the K team including the last match to get the draw. For the J team 11 year old Neil Dattani took two and combined with Tom Howson for the doubles.
