Pudsey Dominate Yorkshire Closed Championships
Pudsey senior players dominated the event held at Halifax on Sunday. In a strong field in the men’s event Pudsey top player Simon Noutch came through from a 2-0 deficit against Ivan Lewis to win 3-2 to reach the men’s final. Here he faced Dewsbury Richard Lightowler and in an absorbing final came through to win the men’s singles. In the Ladies event top seed Joanna Roberts won the round robin event.
Joanna and Simon paired up to take the mixed doubles final but were made to work all the way by Scarborough pair of Martin Lowe and Rebecca George winning 11-7 in the fifth end. In the men’s doubles Pudsey player Simon Pugh paired up with Richard Lightowler to reach the final and they overcame the Hull pairing of Sean Madden and Chris Clinton 3-0 with strong attacking shots from Pugh.
In the junior events on the Saturday Pudsey were represented in the boy’s events by Edward Hollingsworth, Reece Bell, Tim Mcdonald and Reuben Hainsworth. Edward being the top performer reaching the final of the under 13 boys before losing England ranked number 14 Darryl Gee.
Pudsey’s 13 year old Nicole Finn went to compete in the higher age group at a junior two star girl’s round robin event in Widnes. Nicole hitting new heights finished runner up winning six of her seven single including two victories over juniors in the top 45 in England.
