Pudsey Push for Promotion

It was the British League teams that took centre stage for Pudsey this weekend in Grantham. The first team of David Smith, Phil Cawser, Chris Parker and Joanna Roberts were currently lying third and pushing for a promotion position in division 3 north
In their opening match they faced local rivals Hull but after an early shock loss for Smith Pudsey powered their way to 7-1 victory. The second match saw them face Ormesby and saw a much closer fought game. Pudsey led 4-2 before Stephanie Donnelly pulled the score back to 4-3. Not many sides have the quality and experience of Joanna Roberts at number four and she duly obliged to give Pudsey victory. This season has seen the inform Roberts be the backbone of Pudsey success in this league. With results going in their favour Pudsey  now lie second in the league with one weekend to go.

The second team found life much tougher going down 8-0 to leaders Glasgow with only Ray Rider showing any strong signs of resistance losing a match 12-10 in the fifth. A more creditable performance accounted for a draw with Rotherham Scorpions. Here two wins for James Atkins, one for Rider and one for Rudi Itoe.

13 year old Nicole Finn made a dream debut for the Yorkshire Junior second team and won her first match 11-9 in the fifth over Lancashire’s number one girl Lindsay Hardy to help Yorkshire to victory over the old rival.  Against Cheshire Finn facing the much higher ranked Sarah Weatherby suffered an 11-0 loss in the first game but showed great character to come back and win in five games.
