Pudsey Trials Hat Trick

It was the Yorkshire Trials over this weekend in Scarborough and Pudsey Youngsters were in the thick of the action. On Saturday Nicole Finn added the U15 cadet girl’s singles to her growing collection of tournament victories including a five end win over number one seed Jennifer wood of Scarborough.

On Sunday her younger team mate Ellen Auty continued to show the strength of the Pudsey girls with an unbeaten display in the under 13 girls to lift her first major win. In a round robin event Ellen had a hard fought fifth end win over the number one seed Rhianna Wood. To win the event she came back from a 2-0 deficit against Halifax Georgia Rose to win the fifth end 11-1.
Daniel Adams was the third singles winner in the under 18 junior boys. Daniel started with a below par performance at 9 am losing his first match but qualified in second place in his group. In the next group of eight he won all six games till he faced the unbeaten Reece Lo from Hull. A victory for Adams would leave him the winner and with some subtle blocking and a deft touch he soon raced into a 2-0 lead. In a tense third end with both players having chances Lo pulled a game back 14-12. Adams was not to be denied taking the fourth end 11-6.

Nicole stepping up an age group produced some excellent wins in the Under 18 girls to finish as runner up. Pudsey other youngsters also performed creditable with Matthew Hull and Edward Hollingsworth finishing sixth and seventh in the under 13 boys.
Ellen and Nicole now go through to the next stage of the England Ranking trials in December. Nicole and Daniel will be waiting for the selection of the Yorkshire teams with a place in the cadet and juniors for Nicole and Daniel in the juniors as strong contenders.
