Girls Create Interest
Pudsey senior players were representing Yorkshire in Cheshire at the weekend. The team consisted of husband and wife pair Richard and Nicola Smith and brother and sister pair Simon and Sarah Noutch. They were joined by Stephen Denny from Bradford.
They made a disappointing start losing to South Yorkshire 6-4. They recovered to win the next two matches over Lincolnshire and Lancashire 7-3 and 6 – 4 respectively.
Sunday also brought about a loss in the first match against Cleveland before winning a tight contest 6-4 over Northumberland.
It was the second weekend of the National cadet League on Sunday in Wath-on Dearne. Pudsey A team of Tom Fell, Matthew Hull and Wayne Pattison had mixed fortunes. They suffered a heavy defeat to top of the table Rotherham only Tom winning one. A hard fought 3-3 draw followed against Sheffield before a narrow loss 4-2 to Bradford Fastbat’s. The boys finished up with a close win 4-2 over Keighley Oakbank with two wins for Hull and one each for Pattison and Fell.
Pudsey’s second team created a bit of interest at this level as they fielded an all girls team who were all making their debut for Pudsey in the cadet league. This was the first time in the Yorkshire cadet league that a team had consisted entirely of girls. The team of Stephanie Brown, Nicole Finn and Ellen Auty made a reasonable start by drawing there opening game with Rotherham with two wins for Nicole and one for Ellen but it could have been better as Stephanie lost both her games close in the fifth end. Bradford boys proved too strong for the girls as they won 5-1. In the next three matches the girls lost 4-2 but all showed that they could compete at this level. |
