Pudsey Maintain Title Challenge

Pudsey Table Tennis club maintained their challenge for the Division 4 North Senior British League title on Sunday at Grantham.
Pudsey who have operated a rotating squad system in this league fielded the same four players for the two matches of David Smith, Phil Cawser, Chris Parker and Lee Orange.

In their opening match against Isle of Man, Pudsey made a great start with wins for Cawser and Smith though Smith had to work hard getting home in the fifth against Adam Teale. Isle of Man took the third game to give them hope. However Pudsey responded with five straight wins to wrap up a 7-1 victory.

David Smith gave Pudsey a great start winning the first game 3 sets to nil over Neil Marples of Chesterfield. Slaney defeated Cawser in five ends to level the match for Chesterfield. Chris Parker showed his class with a demolish job over Andy Middleton 3,1 and 4 to put Pudsey back in the lead Bradbury levelled the match to 2-2 with a win over Orange. Smith and Parker kept up their unbeaten weekend to increase Pudsey lead to 4-2 and with further wins for Cawser and Orange a 6-2 victory was achieved.

With Sunderland also winning both their matches Pudsey remain in second position one point behind and a having to play them to play in the last weekend of matches the title is still in Pudsey’s own hands.
