Titles Galore for Pudsey at Leeds Closed Championships
Pudsey players dominated the event held at Richmond Hill on Sunday. In a strong field in the men’s event Pudsey top players Simon Noutch and Richard Smith were joined in the Semi-finals by Chris Parker who had taken out the number four seed Mark Land. Number one seed Noutch accounted for Parker before facing Richard in the final. Simon taking the men’s title in a three sets to one victory.
In the Ladies event Joanna Roberts won the five ladies round robin event with Sarah Noutch runner up. In the Ladies doubles Noutch teamed up with Dewsbury’s Helen shields to win the round robin event.
Pudsey talented youngsters had a day to remember with four titles coming their way. With a high entry in the junior boys it was left to top seed James Atkins to face number two seed and team mate Daniel Adams in the final. Adams containing style coming home 12-10 in the fifth. Atkins over came Adams later in the day to win the men’s plate event.
The junior girls saw Nicole Finn lift the title over Ellen Auty but Auty gained revenge winning the division 4-6 handicap singles over Finn in the fifth end.
Lynne Thompson from Pudsey combined with Neil Harris from MPMG to retain the handicap doubles over Danny Beech and Daniel Adams. The handicap singles for the top three divisions also went the way of Pudsey as Rich Smith overcame team mate Simon Pugh in the last game of the day.
In Hull on Saturday in the third Yorkshire One open one star series it was a third silver for Nicole Finn in the cadet girls open. Ellen Auty also tasted silver for the second time in the U13 event.
